Run Fella, Save Traditional Art!! by TaNyaKu Run Fella, Save Traditional Art!! by TaNyaKu
I finally finished my tribute to "Fella" DeviantArt's own mascot and hero... i really love it here on DA, it's nice to have a platform where one can show and share their work and not worry that they'er amateurs or not good enough. Cos these days if you want to be on any thing else, it's either you got it or you don't and i think Digital Art's really cementing that fact...
So in my piece I tried to depict how Fella struggles hard to save Traditional Art in a now predominate world of Digital Titans...

I used, 3 pencils (H4,HB,B), a ballpoint pen and a felt-tip marker...i drew on two A4 pages and joined them together with Photoshop.

I wish everyone the best of luck, except the ones in the Traditional division... you'll need Super-Luck and a Llama :llamabadge:
Good luck to you all!!

It is disappointing how little love traditional art gets on this site nowadays, and this sums it up very well!

Yeah, but what can ya'h do we're all slaves to technology... the only givens is that one day traditional art will be so rare that people will pay big-money to have something that's really for a change... Digital sometimes has a way of making things look cheap... especially in game concept Art, their so talented but are always in such a hurry cos of deadlines and what not ...

True, and many places tend to skimp on traditional teachings even when that is the main focus. Plus there are so many materials and techniques one can learn, but that is also part of the strength behind traditional mediums; there really is no limit.

I love looking at the fantasy works of Ken Kelly and Frank Frazetta, and many of the artists that were doing fantasy/sci-fi artwork alongside them or who were inspired by artists of their caliber. It really blows digital art out of the water.

I think one of the issues is that many techniques are becoming rare, there aren't many that can or who are able to pass them on unless you happen to be working along side them in a professional setting. This also seems to be true for sculpture and other traditional mediums as well, where as with digital there are so many tutorials and short cuts for key commands that the speed in which one can learn greatly increases.
Colleges may or may not help a student grow in the direction that they desire, which can be very discouraging if it turns out to be the case. This goes for both traditional and digital, but it really tends to show with traditional artists when materials may not be so cost effective once out of a educational setting.

A shame many hinderances for traditional art is a result of deadlines, or the reality/illusion of a lack of time depending on the setting.

So true, Techniques and their teachers are slowly fading away, for instance the amount of brush and paint manipulation patches that are available these days. Many Artist use em and produce great art but most don't even know or have actually seen some of them in real life... It was better before, when pro's saw new brushes they would be so excited to use em, cos they knew what kind of effect they could make now that they couldn't before... But now as Software updates, all kinds of these tool are readily available any one to use and even i don't know half of em.... the some can be said about Sculpting too... 3D printers are awesome, but they could kill it for chiselers and molders.... as good and perfect as they may be... they can't compare to the real deal...

I hope you don't think um all bitter about Digital Art (DA)'s, its just that i feel people should remember where it all came from....
Anyway thanks for the support, i really enjoyed having this chat with you...
And Great Sculptures and tattoo prints by the way(at least i hope they're tattoo prints, that would be awesome), you really have crafty fingers... you know what they say about crafty fingersWink/Razz ...wait, you're a dude, right!!Oops!

I can't sit in front of a computer and work, it isn't the same or as satisfying as using traditional mediums. Plus the screen tends to irritate the eyes far too quickly.

I guess the perk to 3D printers, at least for the moment, is that they are still relatively expensive and they do have different spacial ratios. It would be useful for reproducing smaller sculpts without having to individually cast and recast copies, even more so for model kits.

Eh, I appreciate digital art but am not one to get more excited over it. Doesn't have the same feel as traditional, no matter how close one may be able to get with filters and added effects.
The prints are indeed tattoo designs. Ages old, but they help the gallery look a bit less barren (and nope, not a dude).

Oh and could you please send me the links to Frank Frazetta and Ken Kelly's page i would really love to have my Mind-blown...Blow your mind

I don't think tattoo artists will ever be completely replaced by machinery. Doubt they would allow it.

You can still enter contests - but only for fun. Winning official ones is not an option then. So that's something you have to keep in mind for sure, before applying :B

Haha yeah.
